Our Founder Shares Her Nighttime Skin + Hair Care Routine

It’s funny to think about how much my nighttime routine has shifted over the years. Back when I was a teenager and well into my early twenties, my nighttime routine was minimal at best – I was proud of myself if I remembered to just wash my face before going to sleep. I spent so little time caring for my skin, hair and self, but so much time getting “done up” in the morning.

Now, the complete opposite is true. When carried out in its entirety (which doesn’t happen every night), my nighttime skin and hair care routine is somewhat extensive compared to what it used to be. But my morning “getting ready” routine isn’t. Since investing more into truly caring for my skin, hair and self, I don’t feel the need to get as made up each day or make sure every strand of hair is in place or that my makeup is flawlessly applied.

Much of this can be chalked up to a mindset shift I’ve experienced over the years, as well as #momlife (because the smallest tasks take 10x longer with a little one at your heels!). But I also believe that adopting a more holistic and natural approach to caring for oneself cultivates confidence and makes for more radiant + healthy skin, hair, etc. all around, which takes away from the need to do as much primping and pampering in the morning.

Here’s a little glimpse into the nighttime routine I’ve grown into over the years!

HAIR

Before diving into this, I have to give a disclaimer: I only wash my hair 2 times a week at the very most. It wasn’t always this way – I was once the girl who washed, blow-dried and curled her hair – every. single. morning. (It makes me cringe to think about the countless hours I wasted doing this over the years!)

But those days are long gone, and I largely have Innersense Organic Beauty Hair Products to thank for that! I discovered Innersense around the same time I started Primally Pure a little over 3 years ago. I had tried dozens of other “natural” hair products before, but always felt like I was sacrificing something (texture, scent, that squeaky clean feeling…) until I found Innersense.

I adore the company’s founders, Joanne and Greg, and have been amazed at how much my hair has changed in the best and most unexpected of ways since switching over to their products.

To begin my routine, I do two wash cycles (super important detail) with Innersense’s Hydrating Cream Hairbath, followed by the Hydrating Cream Conditioner (I usually leave this in while shaving my legs to really let my hair soak it up!). Once out of the shower, I apply Sweet Spirit Leave In Conditioner. It moisturizes and helps to much with detangling! As my hair starts to dry, I apply 1-2 pumps Harmonic Healing Oil throughout the middle and ends of my hair. This product smells SO nice and is always a favorite part of my nighttime hair routine!

SKIN

My nighttime skincare routine always begins with our Cleansing Oil. Based on the scientific principle that like dissolves like, the oil cleansing method utilizes beneficial oils that penetrate deep into pores to dissolve grime and build-up. This age-old method of cleansing effectively purifies + nourishes the skin while keeping its natural moisture barrier in-tact, and it’s also incredibly relaxing (the perfect way to wind down from a busy day).

Next up is our Everything Spray. Instead of spritzing this product, I apply it to an organic cotton pad and wipe it onto my skin, just as you would with a toner. The organic raw + unfiltered apple cider vinegar in this products balances pH levels and contains powerful healing enzymes, while organic tea tree essential oil disinfects and organic lavender essential oil heals and regenerates. Plus, it leaves the skin with the most fresh, clean feeling ever.

Lastly, I moisturize. I usually use our Blue Tansy Beauty Cream, as I’m obsessed with the scent and love the relaxing, skin-soothing and deeply nourishing benefits of this product. But I also like to switch things up, and lately I’ve been moisturizing with Fancy Face Serum followed by Baby Balm around my eye area. Our Baby Balm doubles as an incredibly effective eye cream, as it penetrates deep into the skin to moisturize and doesn’t contain any essential oils that have the potential to irritate the eye area.

SELF

As a business owner and mother to a sweet + very high energy two year-old, self care often gets pushed by the wayside. But sometimes the littlest things can be the most life-giving.

My nighttime self-care routine is simple: do something. Whether that’s a bath with healing salts, a glass of wine while reading a book or watching Netflix and eating a paleo ice cream sandwich, I try to carve out time to do at least one little thing for myself each night. They may not seem like much, but these little rituals sometimes make all the difference!

What are some of your favorite or most important parts of your nighttime routine?
